Ananda Sangiit – Interpretations of Prabhat Samgiit
13 years ago on a warm August afternoon I took the first steps on a journey of deeper and deeper musical inspiration.
I sat in the peaceful meditation hall of Bere Island Buddhist Centre in the West of Ireland facing the wild Atlantic with its big windows, and the gong had just sounded for meditation. Then it started. Something opened up, and my mind went deeper than ever before.
It felt as if the strings of my heart had suddenly caught The Great; Love Personified was there in front of me at arms length . . . for an entire blissful week.
Then the flood of music started.
I had previously interpreted one or two songs of the great poet composer P R Sarkar of West Bengal. What had been a trickle now became a torrent of music. Song after song, interpretation after interpretation effortlessly fell into place at an amazing speed! Ever since that day many years ago the songs have given me great bliss and have deepened my meditation.
